چکیده

Giant freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii), a commercially important crustacean species, is widely distributed across the Indo-Pacific region. Genetic diversity of this species from five different rivers (Krishna, Mahanadi, Hooghly, Narmada and Kalu) of India was investigated using 5 polymorphic microsatellite loci. The number of alleles across loci varied from 4 to 9. The mean expected and observed heterozygosity at all loci was 0.8359 and 0.5747 respectively. Most of the loci deviated significantly from HardyWeinberg expectations across all the populations. Pairwise FST estimates (0.0420 to 0.0841) revealed a significant genetic structure among M. rosenbergii populations of Indian rivers. The highest (0.5140) genetic distance was observed between Krishna and Kalu populations. All five wild populations exhibited significant variation across all five microsatellite loci. The results revealed in the study will be useful for breeding programs and conservation management of this species. Aeromonas infections are becoming a major risk factor in commercial aquaculture and it has been reported that a wide variety of fish and shellfish species are susceptible to this infection. In this study, 3 isolates of Aeromonas hydrophila were isolated from giant freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) cultured in Kuala Pilah Simbilan Nigri in East Malaysia. Macrobrachium rosenbergii nodavirus infection in a giant freshwater prawn hatchery in Indonesia

A pathogen of giant freshwater prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii, was recently recorded in a hatchery in Yogyakarta. The clinical symptom in post-larvae (PL) was a whitish appearance of the muscles in the tail. Histological examination revealed myonecrosis with massive infiltration of myonuclei and hemocytes. RT-PCR products of 850 bp were obtained when using RNA from diseased PL as a template. ...

Huxley's line demarcates extensive genetic divergence between eastern and western forms of the giant freshwater prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii.

Phylogenetic analysis of representatives from 18 wild populations of the giant freshwater prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii, utilising a fragment of the 16S rRNA mitochondrial gene, identified two major reciprocally monophyletic clades either side of a well-known biogeographic barrier, Huxley's line. The level of divergence between the two clades (maximum 6.2%) far exceeds divergence levels with...
